Bloom's Taxonomy.

Introduction.

[coe.uga.edu]
Bloom's taxonomy is a method of learning. In 1956 Mr.Benjamin Bloom found three domains of educational activities which are useful to teachers as well as students.

     Mr.Bloom's three domains of educational objectives are as follows;

      1. Cognitive Domain. (Knowledge)

      2. Affective Domain. (Attitude)

      3. Psycho-motor Domain. (Skills)

1. Cognitive Domain.

This domain include the Intellectual skill (Ability to understand) and the Knowledge. Mr.Bloom identified six levels within the cognitive domain.

The six major categories, starts from the simplest behavior to the most complex behavior. In other words recalling facts to the evaluation.

The six major categories are as follows,

                  1.1) Knowledge. (Re-calling)
This defined the remembering of previous learned material. This represents the lowest level of Cognitive domain. Some keywords for knowledge are definitions, describes, labels, lists, names, repeat etc.

                  1.2) Comprehension.
This refers to the ability to understanding the meanings of learned materials. Some keywords are classification, explanation, identification, locations, summarizes, reports etc.

                  1.3) Application.
This defined the ability to use learned materials to solve problems. Some keywords are charts, demonstrations, illustrations, interpretations etc.

                  1.4) Analysis.
This refers to the ability to outline major points by breaking down them into simple points. Some keywords are calculations, analyses, break down, categories, contrasts, limits, subdivides etc.

                   1.5) Synthesis. (Creative)
This refers to put parts together to form a whole which is express a new or creative meaning. Some keywords are adapts, combines, creates, designs, develops, organize, substitutes etc.

                   1.6) Evaluation.
This defined the ability to make judgement or decisions of material based on given purpose. This represent the highest level of the Cognitive hierarchy. This includes some keywords such as judges, decisions, justifies, argues, evaluations, compares, contrasts etc.

Bloom's Revised Taxonomy..!

In the 1990, one of the Benjamin Bloom's students, Lorin Anderson revised the original Bloom's Taxonomy. In here the names of the major Cognitive process were changed to indicate actions (Active engagements).

This can be clearly shown by following below charts.

2. Affective Domain.

Affective domain refers to the response towards learning, punctuality, experience, feelings, emotions etc.

    2.1) Receiving.
Student pays attention and learn study materials.

   2.2) Responding.
Student actively participates in the learning process.

   2.3) Valuing.
Student try to attach some values to learning.

   2.4) Organizing.
Student try to combine values, information and ideas to express what has been learned.

   2.5) Characterizing.
Student use his/her learned values to their behavior. So that, it becomes a characteristic.

3. Psycho-motor Domain.

Psycho-motor Domain refers to the ability to use hands or performance or identify. This can be alternatively known as "Physical movements". Development of Physical movements can be measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures or techniques which carries out.
